"Green" Shampoo

Me, all Sudded (is that a word?) up
So, I'm staying at this "green" hotel and I was itching to wash my hair...not "cowash"...no, I wanted to do a proper wash because my hair was feeling "icky". Unfortunately since I haven't washed my hair with shampoo in a while, I didn't have any on me. So I thought, what the heck, I will use the hotel shampoo. Imagine my excitement when I saw that the shampoo was labeled "99% ecologically responsible" and "fully biodegradable". It means I get to wash my hair with a "gentle" shampoo. Ummm...not so much, it had SLS as the second ingredient. So, I just figured out that "green" pretty much refers to the environmentally conscious stuff and not neccessarily "Christabel'shairconscious".Yup, I've been schooled.

THE "green" shampoo in question
But anywhos, my hair definitely feels better after the wash and curls way better. Morale of the story is listen to your hair and if it feels some kinda way and products are not working as they should, it might be time to sud it up with a sulfate shampoo. This might be needed only once a month and believe me, your hair will thank you for it.

After Wash with DC in
P.S.: I moved to SF hence me not sticking to my self-imposed mon, wed, fri posting schedule but I'll get there...pinky promise. Aaand, I've been walking everywhere since our car is yet to come in and I'm loving it. This might just be the care-free way to stay in shape.

P.S.S.: Please forgive the picture quality as this was blogged from my phone hence phone pictures.

Till later,

4th Day Hair Woot Woot!!

Just a quick post showing you my fourth day hair and it still looks fab! Before getting in the shower this morning, I rubbed a quarter-sized amount of the Shea Moisture Curling Souffle in my hair. Since it has glycerin, I knew that it would help my hair hold onto moisture from the steam better. When I got out of the shower, my hair was so so soft and feeling really moisturized. I sprayed a little of the She Moisture Moisture Mist and viola, fabulous day 4 hair!

Thanks ladies for your continued support and readership :)

#sidenote: I need to find a better foundation for my o so oily skin smh

Third Day Hair and Listening to Your Hair

My Pineapples before bed last night

My hair this morning
My hair this afternoon :)

What did I do you ask? Well same as I did the night before. I pineappled, went to bed, woke up and refreshed in the shower with the steam. However, this morning, I did not spritz with additional water or refresher spray and i STILL had uber moisturized hair.

The key to maintaining and keeping it moisturized is sleeping in those pineapples and listening to your hair. If you feel like you need some moisture, go ahead and spray it with some water and seal with light oil. Instead of saying:
"well my hair should stay moisturized for X number of days, so I'm not spritzing it this morning otherwise I'm admitting that I'm not moisturizing properly on day one"
"my hair feels like it might need a little bit of something extra and I will spritz it lightly with water even if I have to do it every night or every morning and that's okay."
I think that when we get stuck on what should be, we ignore our hair's needs and what actually is!

So ladies, go ahead and listen to you hair, it definitely took me 4 years of not listening to finally get it together.

Tutorial: Achieve 2nd and 3rd Day WNG Hair

Hi guys, I know it's been forever since I've been on here, I'm so sorry.  Life gets so busy and it seems that the blog falls way down on the priority list of spiritual things, family, hubby etc. But, since I love blogging so much, I will endeavor to do it more by putting together a schedule of days to post. What do you guys think about posting 3 days a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays)? I think this will keep me accountable and ensure that I take care of other stuff too.

Without further ado, here is the video (and pictures) I made this morning of how I achieved 2nd day hair using my mini pineapples at bed time. I styled with Eco Styler gel and Let's Jam Custard (tutorial to come).

And that's it, easy peasy to do. Till Wednesday, have a great week :)

My WNG Routine - Tutorial

I decided to do my very first tutorial and it's of my WNG method while doing the CG method. I used Tressemme Naturals as my pre-poo and AO Camellia conditioner as my leave in. Enjoy :)

New Beginnings

In other news non-hair related, my hubby graduated with his MBA from the Kelley School of Business on the 4th and was that a relief. When we got married in July of 2010, we knew we were school-bound and will so remain for 2 years. Then, it seemed like such a monumental task that will never come to and end. But things always come to an end don't they?

I will say that while these past two years were challenging, it was extremely rewarding as well. We came to rely upon each other a whole lot and it made our love for each other that much stronger. I am so proud of him and the huge accomplishment that is his MBA. While accolades are only but a small part of what it means to live a truly happy life, it is satisfying to see hard work, perseverance and dedication pay off. And for that, I am so proud of him.

In addition to his graduation, I graduate from nursing school on Friday and that makes me so so happy. Again, it was a tough 2 years and nursing school is a killer even for the most studious, dedicated and disciplined student but i got through it with a reaffirmed love for patient care. I will take my NCLEX (state boards) after which I get certified as a Registered Nurse, how awesome is that?

Also, we are relocating at the end of May to a much much bigger state (I've never even visited) and there is nothing scarier than moving to a place where you know no one. But again, things always work out. We trust in Jehovah, put our spiritual interests first, and we always always are okay and for that I am so thankful.

So, even though we are faced with a lot of upcoming changes, I am confident that things will work out just fine and I am happier than I've ever been. I love my man, he loves me and we have the same interests, what more can I ask for?

Roller Set Results

If you saw my post here, you know that I ordered knock off "curlformers" from China so when I had a fancy function to go to, I decided to try them out.

I started by wetting my hair with plain water and applying my Shea Butter mix to each section. I used small sections and set just the very top of my hair since it is tapered.

I went to bed and slept on my satin pillow case. The plan was to wake up in the morning, take down the rollers and spritz the sides and back of my hair to revitalize my curls.

Well, when I took off the rollers, the curls were shiny, defined and just gorgeous.

But, when I wet the sides, some of the moisture got on the curls and frizzed them up...sad face :(

Nevertheless, I decided to make the most of it. I separated the sections into smaller sections and fluffed. Since I was going to an all day event, I decided to hold the curls in place with hair spray (gasp...yeah I know but it worked). Everyone loved it and I got a lot of compliments with the frizz factor and all.

So, overall, it is a great styling tool that will get you stretched defined curls. If you have hair all over your head, then there will be no issue with moisture. The next time around, I will use a setting product with more hold and I will wait until after I shower to unravel them.

All in all, I love(d) it and I know that practice makes perfect so I'm sure my next set will be awesome!
Have you tried a Curlformers set? What are your tips and tricks?
